Would you die for this? Not just "die" in some punk rock poser bullshit slogan, but actually push your life to every possible edge of darkness, would you? Eugene Robinson has done that for four decades. He's the black guy in a sea of skinheads with questionable allegiances at A Cro-Mags show in 84, he's the guy singing/screaming/gyrating for noise rock legends Oxbow as he alternates between swinging his dick or his fists at audience members that want to badly to be part of the sho, and he's also the guy getting choked out by MMA stalwarts like Brian "the Fury" Johnston partially for a great book that he wrote (Fight), but I suspect more because he likes being in the grips of terror and coming out the other side alive. Eugene Robinson is a bad motherfucker, that is undeniable, but read anything he's ever written from his books to articles in GQ to Hustler, you get the sense he's a Renaissance man in the true sense of the word. He is sensitive, intelligent, funny, endearing in every possible way, he is a "lifer" to the DO IT YOURSELF way. When he goes down it will not be quiet.
